Range Widely
Many of the best innovations happen at the intersection of different worlds
With the exception of those in the creative industries, many professionals focus mainly on the hard, rational aspects of their work. Lawyers focus on the law. Accountants on standards. Engineers on science. And so on.
But real breakthroughs rarely come from simply applying what we already know.
They come from imaginative leaps. The kind that go beyond historical data or the existing body of knowledge in our fields. After all, if the idea already exists, it is not a breakthrough.
To think differently, we must experience differently.
Exposure to unfamiliar industries, ideas, people, and places expands the pool of insights we can draw from when we are asked to think “out of the box”.
Broadening your range does not mean abandoning your craft. We will always need experts. But the most effective experts know when to borrow ideas from outside their field.
Many of the best innovations happen at the intersection of different worlds.
So range widely, read broadly and explore unfamiliar spaces. Your next breakthrough might come from somewhere unexpected.
Have a productive and creative week.
